Speedy Freight Turns 15!

2021 marks a momentous day in the Speedy Freight Calendar – it’s our birthday!

That’s right, 2021 is the fifteen-year anniversary of Speedy Freight springing to life in the minds of our founders, Mike and Ian, and ultimately becoming a much-loved part of the UK courier scene.

With such a turbulent last year for all of us, Speedy Freight has had an incredibly humbling 12 months overcoming challenges posed by the pandemic. From moving emergency stocks to resupply supermarkets with those much-needed goods, to our latest work moving medical supplies to support the UK’s COVID-19 vaccination programme, the last year has truly been one we can be proud of.

As we mark 15 years of providing logistics all around the UK, we take a look back on what the last decade and a half has brought for the Speedy Freight family.

2006 |

  • Speedy Freight was founded by Mike Le-Gallez and Ian Southworth – in Ian’s spare bedroom! The pair had a vision –  to make logistics solutions simple for every industry-  after finding themselves in an emergency situation to move goods when they needed a speedy solution!
  • Mike and Ian wanted to prioritise providing same-day support for businesses around the UK, no matter what industry they were in. Together, the two entrepreneurs worked closely to develop a new system and process, and built relationships with courier drivers all across the UK.

2009 |

  • 2009 saw Mike and Ian launch their very first regional office, in Stoke, and employed Damian Carter who went onto purchase the territory once the duo franchised the solution! Today, Damian remains the Director of the Stoke branch, and over the years has added Crewe, Telford and Shrewsbury to his portfolio, Damian is an integral member of the Speedy Freight family, all these years later!

2011 |

  • In 2011, the pair franchised the Speedy Freight brand, allowing for truly national success as they planned to launch branches regionally all around the UK.
  • In quick succession, the pair launched another four national branches, welcoming long standing General Managers Ian Boardman and John Powell.
